Florida State Men's Tennis Downs the Wolverines 6-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Florida State men's tennis team improved its record to 4-0 after defeating the University of Michigan Sunday, February 2nd. The Seminoles beat the Wolverines by a score of 6-1. Mat Cloer led the way for the Tribe, as he allowed only three points to be scored against him at the No. 1 singles position.
The Seminoles started strong as they swept doubles play. Cloer and Rodrigo Laub, playing at the No. 1 position, defeated Chris Shaya and Michael Rubin of Michigan, 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, Florida State's Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd knocked off Chris Rolf and Vinny Gossain by a score of 8-6. Chris Westerhof and Jeff Groslimond completed the Seminole sweep, as they beat Anthony Jackson and Josef Fischer, 8-5.
The Tribe continued its success in singles play, as Florida State took five of six matches against the Wolverines. At the No. 1 position, Cloer overpowered Rubin of Michigan by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Florida State's Jurd, after struggling in the first set of the match, knocked off Jackson, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. In No. 3 singles, Herrera beat Shaya of Michigan by scores of 7-5, 2-6, 1-0(6). Freshman Heiner Tadault got a win against Michigan's Fischer at the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-2. Hagen Endler earned a victory at the No. 6 position, defeating Gossain by scores of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. The lone Seminole loss of the day came at the No. 4 position, as Chip Webb fell to Michigan's David Anving, 6-2, 6-4.
The Seminoles will return to action Sunday, February 9th, when they host the University of Florida at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center at 1:00 pm.
