TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the second time this season and in her career, sophomore outside hitter Nicole Walch was named as the ACC Player of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Monday.
"Our game against Duke was one of the best this season," Walch said. "Our intensity level was up there and it was just a really exciting match to play. I think the awards will come when they come, but we are all just focused on this week and we can't wait to play against Clemson and Georgia Tech."
Walch earns the honor for the second time this month (Nov. 4), as she was first recognized after her play against North Carolina and NC State. Two other Seminoles garnered the weekly accolades this season as her sister, Elise captured Player of the Week on Oct.21 before senior Ashley Neff was given the award on Sept. 16. Izzy Carmona was named the ACC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 21.
The Stuart, Fla. native led the Seminole attack for the fifth-consecutive match on Sunday against (then No. 13) Duke, helping FSU to its seventh ACC sweep of the season and fifth victory over a top 25 team.
In Friday's 3-0 sweep against Wake Forest, Walch tallied 11 kills while hitting .476 percent. She added three digs, two assists and one block.
Walch continued her dominant play in the upset over Duke, amassing 15 kills, eight digs and four blocks. She also recorded a hitting percentage of .419, combining for .422 on the weekend.
Florida State jumped back up to No.16 in the AVCA polls after the pair of wins this weekend in addition to climbing to 19 in RPI.
The Seminoles close out the season this week with a pair of home matches, starting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Clemson. On Friday, FSU will take on Georgia Tech at 4 p.m.
