Florida State Men's Tennis To Host Hurricanes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team will host the University of Miami Saturday, February 22, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm. The Seminoles enter the contest with a record of 4-4 on the season, while the Hurricanes boast a 4-1 record.
The Seminoles and the Hurricanes have met 48 times in the history of the two programs. Miami leads the series with an all-time record of 42-6. Last season, Florida State knocked off Miami in Tallahassee by a score of 6-1. With a win on Saturday, the Tribe will have earned two consecutive victories against the Hurricanes for the first time since the 1993 and 1994 teams accomplished the feat.
Florida State, currently ranked 41st nationally, enters the match with a record of 4-4. The Tribe has knocked off two ranked teams this season. On their first road trip of the season, the Seminoles defeated #57 Michigan and #44 Notre Dame. The four losses on the Florida State schedule came to higher-ranked opponents. Alex Herrera, ranked 114th in the nation, leads the Seminoles. The Florida State duo, Herrera and Romain Jurd, ranked 38th nationally as a doubles team, present a challenge to opposing teams. The tandem enters the Miami match with a record of 6-2 in dual match play.
Miami enters the match ranked 34th in the nation and boasts a record of 4-1 on the season. The only blemish on the Hurricane schedule is a 6-1 loss, which came at the hands of sixth-ranked Florida. The Canes, led by ninth-ranked Todd Widom, have defeated two ranked teams this season, including a 4-3 victory against 18th-ranked Texas A&M.
The Tribe will return to action Thursday, February 27th, when they host the Furman Paladins at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
