Florida State Volleyball Plucks The Ducks, 3-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla - Florida State, led by senior Kristin Frye, defeated Oregon Tuesday, September 10th, at Tully Gymnasium by a score of 3-0 (30-22, 30-28, 30-28). The victory marked the first time in the program's history that the Seminoles have defeated a Pac-10 team. With the win, Florida State improves to 3-2 on the season, while the Ducks fall to 6-3.
"This was probably our best effort of the season," said head coach Todd Kress. "The intensity was there in all aspects of the game. We seemed to work harder in trasition and looked better defensively."
Leading the way for the Seminoles was Frye with a match-high 17 kills on 27 attacks and four errors for a hitting percentage of .481. Frye also served one ace on the night. Senior outside hitter Erica Bunch turned in another strong performance for Florida State as she hit .273, recording 10 kills on 22 attacks and four errors. Jen Anderson tallied a season-high 46 assists and five aces against the Ducks. Bunch and Anderson led the team in digs as they each recorded six.
"Kristin Frye was definitely our go-to," said Kress. "She has been able to light it up in this system. She is just finding a way to put the ball away."
Oregon was led by senior Lindsay Closs as she recorded 15 kills on 25 attacks and one error for a hitting percentage of .560. Kelly Russell recorded 10 kills, 21 attacks and hit ..381 for the Ducks. Senior setter Sydney Chute led the team in assists with 18. Katie O'Neil recorded a match-high seven digs to lead Oregon.
Florida State will return to action Friday, September 13th, when the team travels to Miami to compete in the Florida International Tournament. The Seminoles will face Miami, Florida International and IUPUI in the tournament.
