Sept. 6, 2011
GREENSBORO, N.C. (seminoles.com) - Florida State redshirt junior forward Jessica Price has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week after leading the Seminoles to a win over 11th-ranked Marquette and a road victory at UAB.
Price extended her scoring streak to four games with a goal and an assist in the two games last week.
The Libertyville, Ill., native broke a 1-1 tie against the Golden Eagles in the 65th minute on a spectacular individual effort down toward the end line. With the defender maintaining inside position on the ball and trying to let it roll out of bounds, Price made a quick inside move around the defender to regain possession. As Marquette keeper Natalie Kulla was charging on the play, Price slotted the ball between the post and the goalkeeper inside the upper right corner to give the Noles a 2-1 advantage. The game-winner was the 10th of her career.
Price followed that performance with her team leading fourth assist in a 4-0 road shutout over UAB. Price fed Tiffany McCarty in the second half to give FSU a 3-0 lead. The assist was the 20th of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth on FSU's all-time list.
For the season, Price is tied for the team lead with eight points on two goals and four assists.
Price and the fifth-ranked Seminoles will return to action this Friday, September 9 when they take on intra-state rival and eighth-ranked Florida in Gainesville at 7:00 p.m.
With wins over No. 11 Marquette and UAB, the Seminoles continued to climb the rankings in all three national polls. FSU ranks as high as fifth by the NSCAA moving . The Garnet and Gold moved up a spot to No. 7 and No. 8 in the Soccer Times and Soccer America polls, respectively.
