TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Todd Kress, who has led three teams to the NCAA Tournament in seven years and led Northern Illinois to the Mid-American Conference championship last season, was named the head volleyball coach at Florida State University Director of Athletics Dave Hart, Jr. announced Thursday. Kress comes to Florida State from Northern Illinois University, where he led the Huskies to a 58-30 record (65.9 winning percentage) over the last three years. He was the head coach at Fairfield University prior to that, where he led the Stags to a 94-45 record (67.6) from 1995-98. Kress has a career record of 152-75 for a winning percentage of .669.

"We're excited that Todd Kress is now a Seminole, said Hart. "We look forward to what our volleyball program can accomplish under his leadership."

Kress replaces the highly successful Dr. Cecile Reynaud who retired at the end of the 2001 season. Reynaud was the head coach of the Seminoles from 1976-2001.

Kress guided Northern Illinois to a 24-6 mark (80.0), a 15-3 regular season record in the Mid-American Conference, the MAC conference tournament championship and into the NCAA Tournament this past season. The Huskies won 21 of their final 23 matches of the season including 18 consecutive before falling in their final regular season match of the year. The team stormed through the MAC tournament winning all three matches by a 3-0 score. He was named the 2001 MAC Coach of the Year.

Kress began his collegiate head coaching career at Fairfield where he became the Stags' all-time winningest coach during his four years there. He guided Fairfield to the NCAA Tournament and a combined 60-12 record during his final two years at the Connecticut school. Kress's final Fairfield team was ranked fourth in the final NCAA Division I, District II poll. The Stags' winning percentage of 94.6 ranked third nationally behind only national champion Long Beach State (36-0, 1.000) and national runner-up Penn State (35-1, 97.2) in 1998.

"I am honored to be the next volleyball coach at Florida State University," said Kress. "After meeting with everyone at Florida State, it became a decision largely based on the people associated with the department of athletics at Florida State. When I combined those people with the resources in place, it was evident that FSU would be a perfect fit for my family and me."

Kress earned a bachelor's of fine arts degree in broadcasting from Cincinnati in 1992. He earned an associate of arts degree in communications from Edison State College in Ohio in 1988.

A native of Piqua, Ohio, Kress is married to the former Dani (DON-ee) Peterson. The couple has a one-year old boy, Trevor.
