The Florida State men's tennis team hosted in-state rival Miami Saturday, February 22nd, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. The match was set to begin at 1:00 pm, but due to inclement weather was delayed and started at 6:15 pm. The rain was not the only thing that dampened the Seminoles day, as the Hurricanes blew into Tallahassee and defeated the Tribe by a score of 5-2. With the loss, the Seminoles fall to 4-5 on the season, while the Hurricanes improve to 5-1

In doubles action, the Seminoles and the Hurricanes battled for the first point of the day. A number of close matches highlighted doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd defeate Miami's Luis Manrique and John Hoyes, 8-6. The Hurricanes captured a win in No. 2 doubles, as Andrew Golub and Colin Purcell defeated Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub by a score of 8-5. At the No. 3 position, the Hurricanes finished on top, as Florida State's Chris Westerhof and Jeff Groslimond fell at the hands of Todd Widom and Eric Hechtman, 8-6

After allowing the Hurricanes to earn the first point of the day in doubles action, the Seminoles faced the challenge of winning four of the six singles points. Early on in singles action, things looked promising for the Seminoles, as Jurd and Herrera were victorious in their matches and put the Seminoles up 2-1. Florida State's Jurd knocked off Manrique in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Herrera, playing at the No. 3 position, defeated Andrew Golub of Miami by scores of 6-4, 6-2. The Seminole lead would not last for long. Miami's Widom, currently ranked ninth in singles by the ITA, tied the match score at two, as he defeated sophomore Cloer in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Westerhof battled with Hechtman of Miami at the No. 5 position, but fell by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Miami clinched the victory, as Purcell defeated Heiner Tadault, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. In the last match of the evening, senior Laub, playing at the No. 6 position, fell to John Hoyes by scores of 7-6 (7), 4-6, 1-0 (5).
