FSU's Janson Wins Again in Gainesville

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State track and field team spent Super Bowl Sunday in Gainesville, Fla., at the 2005 Gator Invitational on February 6. Senior Lacy Janson (Sarasota, Fla./Cardinal Mooney) won the pole vault competition, vaulting 14'1.25" (4.30m) while juniors Rafeeq Curry (Miami, Fla./ACE Academy) and Andrew Diakos (Naples, Fla./Barron-Collier) secured provisional berths in the triple jump and weight throw. Curry competed for the first time this season, posting a jump of 51'00.75" (15.56m) while Diakos threw a seven-foot personal best throw of 63'2.25" (19.28m).
Senior Ian Hornabrook (Southport, Australia/Rend Lake) and sophomore Chris Nickinson (Pensacola, Fla./Washington) finished third and fourth in the mile run in personal best times of 4:10.24 and 4:10.51. Junior John Fallone (Rochester, N.Y./Virginia Tech) finished in third place in the shot put with a throw of 57'5.5 (17.51m).
Freshman Kirsten Hagen (Blacksburg, Va./Christiansburg) took third in the mile in 5:05.52. Junior transfer Barbara Parker (Norfolk, England/Loughborough) crossed the tape third in the 800m run in 2:12.53.
Junior LaKendra McColumn (Lithonia, Ga./Southwest Dekalb) finished in sixth place in the 55m hurdles preliminary race in 8.03 and then took fourth in the final in 7.98. She took 10th in the 200m dash in 24.84.
Senior Kim Walker (Port of Spain, Trinidad/Polytechnic) ran a time of 7.05 in the 55m dash to finish in 10th place. Sophomore Dana Massiah (Trinidad/Bishop Anstey) ran a 200m time of 25.13 for 15th place while junior Cynthia Niako (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson) finished in 8th place in the 400m.
Florida State takes the track next weekend, February 11-12, 2005 at the Razorback Invitational.
