Tallahassee, Fla. - Make it three weeks in a row for the Seminoles. Freshman Sanna Talonen was recognized this week by Top Drawer Soccer as a National Team of the Week honoree. This is the fourth national accolade garnered by a Seminole student-athlete in 2007 as Talonen joins Katrin Schmidt (Soccer Buzz and Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, October 8-14), Becky Edwards (Soccer Buzz National Team of the Week, October 1-7) and Mami Yamaguchi (Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, September 17-23).
The forward from Tampere, Finland guided Florida State to a key conference victory over Miami in the final home regular season game of the season for the Seminoles. Talonen registered her third multi-goal game of the season scoring two goals, all in the first half, as FSU gained sole possession of second place in the ACC with a 4-1 victory over the Hurricanes. It was the first time all season that Miami had given up more than one goal in league play.
Talonen played all 90 minutes in the win as she gave the Seminoles an early 1-0 lead as she beat a Hurricane defender with a quick touch to her left, took a pivot and one-timed a shot into the back of the net. She would increase Florida State's lead to 3-0 right before halftime connecting on her second goal of the afternoon. Talonen, who was open at the near post, finished off a pass from Rachel Lim to cap off the scoring in the first half. She finished the game with three shots, all of which were on goal.
The two goals by Talonen moved her into a tie for second all-time with Camie Bybee for goals by a Seminole freshman with 10. She also moved into a tie for third all-time in points with 24 tying Kasey McCall. Talonen has 24 points on the year with 10 goals and four assists.
Talonen and the Seminoles are back in action this week as they hit the road to face Wake Forest and Duke on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
