The Florida State Lady Seminoles lost a heartbreaker to ACC opponent North Carolina in five games tonight (30-22, 30-28, 20-30, 34-32, 15-13). Florida State would fall in the first two games of the night but then rallied to take games three and four. While the Lady Seminoles were able to take the lead in the fifth game, the Tar Heels would make a comeback for the win 15-13 in the final game. North Carolina improves to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the ACC, while FSU falls to 4-8 and 2-3 in conference action.
"We lost a very tight match to an excellent North Carolina team," said head coach Cecile Reynaud. "We took the lead in the fifth game, unfortunately we couldn't put it away like we needed to. North Carolina was able to raise their level of play right at the end, which is probably why they are the top team in the conference."
Both teams were evenly matched in stats this evening, with FSU leading in hitting percentage .196 to Carolina's .162. UNC would finish the night with 11 total team blocks compared to Florida States 10.
The Lady Seminoles were led by senior Norisha Campbell in kills with 17 and hitting percentage, .333. Two junior members of the FSU squad, Alex Sevillano and Erica Bunch, finished the night with double-doubles. Sevillano would lead the team in digs with 15 while tallying 13 kills. Bunch finished the night with 14 kills and 12 digs.
UNC would also see two players finish with double-doubles in Nicole Reis (25 kills and 20 digs) and Laura Greene (21 kills and 13 digs). Reis saw match-highs in three categories with 60 attacks, 25 kills and 20 digs.
The Lady Seminoles will continue ACC action this weekend as they take on NC State, Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum. FSU leads the Wolfpack in the all-time series record 17-5.
