Tallahassee, Fla. - Redshirt sophomore Garrett Johnson (Tampa, FL/Hillsborough) was named the first Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for his performance at the Clemson Opener on December 3, 2004.

"The exciting thing for Garrett is that he missed all of last year with a life threatening illness," said head coach Bob Braman. "So for him to come out of the gate strong is a great way to get things started. He's going to be exciting to watch because he'll do great things this season."

Johnson posted a provisional qualifying mark in the men's shot put competition in his first meet of the season at the Clemson Opener. The Tampa, Fla., native finished first in the event after establishing a throw of 61' 10.5". Johnson's mark was less than two feet off the indoor school record at Florida State and is currently the farthest throw in the nation.
