Florida State Finishes With 3-3 Tie Against UCF In Women's Soccer

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Florida State University women's soccer team scored three goals in the first half and held on for a 3-3 tie in overtime with UCF at the UCF Soccer Complex Saturday night. Florida State, ranked No. 11 in the most recent NSCAA poll, held a 3-2 lead until the 87th minute when the Knights' Hanna Wilde tied the score on a shot from 20 yards out. The two teams then played two scoreless overtime periods and the match ended in a draw.
Florida State, which is unbeaten in its last four matches, is now 5-2-1. The Knights, who are unbeaten in five of their last six games, are now 4-2-2. The Seminoles outshot the Knights, 24-16, and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Florida State's Mami Yamaguchi scored the first goal of the game to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. The goal was her team leading and career-high 13th of the season. She now has 13 goals and five assists for a single-season career-high 31 points. Yamaguchi has now totaled at least one point in all eight of Florida State's game this year.
UCF tied the game less than three minutes later as Yvonne George tapped home a cross from teammate Nikki Moore to tie the game at 1-1. George received the ball on her foot and beat Seminole goalkeeper Erin McNulty for her second goal of the season.
Florida State then scored two consecutive goals to re-take the lead and up its advantage to 3-1. Sanna Talonen scored in the 25th minute on an assist from Erika Sutton to make the score 2-1. The Seminoles increased their lead to 3-1 less than one minute later on a goal by Kristen van de Ven. Talonen now has seven goals on the season while van de Ven has scored twice.
The Knights tied the game in the second half with two goals while their defense held the Seminoles scoreless over the second 45 minutes. Courtney Whidden closed the gap to 3-2 with a goal in the 58 minute and Hanna Wilde tied the game with less than four minutes remaining in regulation time.
Florida State's McNulty recorded five saves in the game while her counterpart - Jennifer Manis of UCF - was credited with seven saves.
Florida State returns home to take on No. 8 ranked and defending national champion North Carolina Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
