The Florida State Lady Seminole volleyball team took on ACC opponent Wake Forest this afternoon in Tully Gym. Florida State defeated Wake Forest in three games (31-29, 30-22, 30-25). With the win the Lady Seminoles improve to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the ACC, while the Demon Deacons fall to 10-7 and 4-4 in conference action.
"We showed up today and we were ready to play," said head coach Cecile Reynaud. "Wake Forest is an excellent team and I was very pleased with both our effort and our execution this afternoon."
Three Florida State players finished with hitting percentages over .400. Junior, Alex Sevillano led the team with 15 kills and 32 attacks, while notching a match-high eight digs. Senior, Norisha Campbell hit .500 with 11 kills and 20 attacks. Erica Bunch continues to play well as she hit .400 with 13 kills and 25 attacks while tying Sevillano for the match-high in digs with eight. Sophomore setter Jennifer Anderson has 43 assists and a hitting percentage of .500. Elizabeth Pound had a match-high hitting percentage of .667 just short of her career-best .688.
"We came out strong today and showed everyone what we are capable of," said junior Alex Sevillano. "Hopefully we will be able to stay more consistent throughout the second half of ACC play."
The Demon Deacons were led by senior Trina Maso de Moya who hit a match-high 16 kills and 33 attacks. The squad had two players with hitting percentages over .400 in Jessica Hauff who hit .412 and Ashlee Phillips who contributed 43 assists on the night and a .455 hitting percentage.
The Lady Seminoles will now take to the road as they prepare to face ACC foes Virginia on October 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Maryland on October 20 at 5:00 p.m. The team is 1-0 against Virginia this season and 0-1 against Maryland in 2001. The squad will return home again on Oct. 26th as they face Clemson at 7:30. The broadcast will be shown on Sunshine Network.
