Florida State Men's Tennis Prepares For Mideast Regionals
Oct. 15, 2008
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team will send five players to the ITA Mideast Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. beginning with qualifying on Thursday, October 16.
“There are a lot of good players in this region,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “I think our region is one of the strongest in the country and it helps us determine where our guys will play in the lineup come spring.”
Seniors Drew Bailey, Chris Cloer and Maciek Sykut, sophomore Clint Bowles and freshman Chris Reiman will compete for the Seminoles against some of the best players in the country including athletes from nine ACC schools. Cloer, Sykut and Bowles are already in the main draw for singles while Bailey and Reiman will go through qualifying on Thursday. In doubles Bailey and Sykut and Cloer and Reiman will pair together and have automatically qualified for the main draw.
“This is always a big tournament for us because we’re playing a lot of ACC schools,” Hultquist said. “I feel like this is a chance to see how we stack up against schools like Virginia, North Carolina and Duke.”
The 47th-ranked Bowles is coming off a successful All-American tournament where he defeated the No. 7 ranked player in the country and had an overall record of 4-2. Last year the Tampa, Fla. native reached the quarterfinals before losing to Virginia Tech’s Albert Larregola. For recaps and scores throughout the tournament visit www.seminoles.com.
