GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State junior Jean-Yves Aubone has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after unbeaten efforts in the Seminoles' recent matches against Florida and Clemson.
Aubone earned a pair of ranked victories during his undefeated week. Against Florida, the All-American from Miami, Fla., had a hand in both of the Seminoles' points in a 5-2 loss to the ninth-ranked Gators. Aubone partnered with junior Vahid Mirzadeh to clinch the doubles point in an upset win against 18th-ranked Antoine Benneteau and Joey Burkhardt, 8-5. He also earned the team's only singles win against No. 19 Carlos Cueto 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Against Clemson, Aubone and Mirzadeh remained undefeated on the season (5-0) with a win against Carlos Alvarez and Rok Bizjak, 8-3. The No. 28-ranked player in the country, finished his week with a straight-sets victory over Alvarez, 7-6, 6-3, to help Florida State post a 6-1 team win.
On Monday evening Aubone continued his singles winning streak with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory against No. 11 Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech. Aubone has now won seven consecutive three-set matches.
Next up for the No. 16-ranked Seminoles is a trip to Malibu, Calif., and a match against No. 12 Pepperdine. The match was originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m., eastern but has been moved to 6:00 p.m., eastern. For live scoring and a match recap visit www.seminoles.com.
