FSU Men's Tennis Wraps Up Competition At 2002 ITA All-American Championships

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State men's tennis concluded action at the ITA All-American Championships being held in Chattanooga, Tn. Mat Cloer and Romain Jurd both fell in the pre-qualifying round of 32. The pre-qualifying tournament consisted of 256 singles players (and 128 doubles teams).

Jurd advanced in the tournament with wins over Pramod Dabir (6-2, 0-6, 6-4), Anthony Jackson (6-3, 6-4) and Patrick Chucri (7-5, 6-0). In the round of 32, Jurd fell in a close match to Chris Wettengel by scores of 4-6, 6-7 (3).

Cloer also had a strong showing as he took wins over Alex Mabred (6-0, 6-0), Roger Gubser (6-4, 6-4) and Willy Gali (6-7 (4), 6-0, 6-3). As was the case with Jurd, Cloer dropped his round of 32 match by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 4-6 to Paulo Carvalho.

In doubles action, Cloer and Jurd were the only Seminole doubles team in action, but fell in the first round to Austin/Contente 5-8.

The Seminole men's tennis team will return to action next weekend in Miami, Fla. at the Miami Team Tournament. The tournament will be held October 11-13 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at the University of Miami.
