TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - It may not have counted towards the regular season record, but Florida State showed why they will be a team to reckon with in 2009. In their first taste of live action this season, the sixth-ranked Seminoles registered five goals from five different players Friday evening in an exhibition match against the University of Georgia at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

"I thought we attacked in a lot of different ways tonight," said head coach Mark Krikorian. "There were periods where we used the pace that we have up top to get behind and then there were segments of the game where we connected on a lot of passes. We also did a nice job of getting our outside backs into the attack."

Florida State wasted very little time to net the first goal of the match as sophomore Tori Huster found the upper left corner on a chip shot from 15 yards out. Junior Amanda DaCosta started the play dribbling into the middle of the field from the left side and shooting a pass to Huster for the score.

A take down inside the box led to a second goal by Florida State in the first period. On a break away down the middle of the pitch, Casey Short was tackled from behind leading to a penalty kick goal by senior captain Becky Edwards.

The Seminoles added to their lead in the 22nd minute on a goal by senior Lauren Switzer. Jessica Price made a long run toward the end line before quickly changing direction. She passed back up field to Short who fired a beautiful cross to a wide open Switzer. Switzer finished the play redirecting the shot into the back of the net from two yards out.

Georgia would get on the board with less than three minutes to play in the first period on a goal by Ashley Miller. Carrie Patterson sent a cross from the right side of the box where Miller one-timed the shot for the goal.

First Segment: Florida State 3, Georgia 1
FSU - 4 shots, 1 save, 1 corner
UGA - 2 shots, 1 save, 2 corners

Following a torrential down pour which lasted for the first 10 minutes of the second segment, freshman Ines Jaurena assisted on the first goal of the period as DaCosta scored from six yards out. The Katonah, N.Y., native one-timed Jaurena's low lining pass from outside the box into the lower right side of the net for the goal.

Breezy Hupp gave the Seminoles a 2-0 advantage blasting a shot just inside the crossbar. The freshman from Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., scored after gathering her own deflection off a run towards the end line.

Georgia's only scoring opportunity in the second period came off the foot of freshman Christina Kyker. Kyker fired a shot from the left side from about 16 yards out that caromed off the crossbar.

Second Segment: Florida State 2, Georgia 0
FSU - 7 shots, 0 saves, 1 corner
UGA - 1 shot, 4 saves, 0 corners

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the third and final segment Friday evening. Georgia outshot FSU 6-2 in the period as redshirt freshman Katie Bolinsky accounted for both Seminole shots. The Bulldogs' Laura Eddy led the way with two shots.

Third Segment: Florida State 0, Georgia 0
FSU - 2 shots, 3 saves, 0 corners
UGA - 6 shots, 1 save, 1 corner

All three Seminole keepers saw action on Friday night playing 30 minutes. Kimmy Diaz collected three saves in the third period, while Erin McNulty made a save in period one. Kelsey Wys played the second period and faced just one shot.

"Overall, I thought all our young players did a nice job tonight," added Krikorian. "There are certainly many aspects of the game they still need to pick up. That's the case for any player in any sport, as you jump a level, the speed and strength of the opponent become much greater."

Florida State will open the 2009 regular season at home against Jacksonville on Friday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free to every home game at the Seminole Soccer Complex this year.
