Florida State Men's Tennis Defeats Furman, 5-2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team hosted the Furman Paladins Thursday, February 27th, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. After losing the doubles point, the Seminoles dominated singles play and defeated the Paladins, 5-2. With the win, the Tribe improves to 5-5 on the season, while Furman falls to 4-5.

Jeff Groslimond and Chris Westerhof, playing at the No. 2 position, led the way for the Seminoles in doubles action, as they defeated Dasef Weems and Andrew Rogers of Furman, 8-4. In No. 1 doubles, Florida State's Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd fell to James Cameron and Patrick Fillnow by a score of 8-5. With the doubles score tied at one, the first point of the day came down to the No. 3 doubles position. Rodrigo Laub and Hagen Endler fell to Furman's Allen Simmons and Chris Henderson by a score of 8-5, which allowed the Paladins the first point of the match.

After earning the first point of the day in doubles play, Furman carried their success into singles. On court three, Heiner Tadault fell to Henderson of Furman by scores of 6-2, 6-1 to give Furman a 2-0 lead.

After falling behind by two, the Seminoles got back on track and went on to win the five remaining singles matches. Florida State's Jurd got the Seminoles back into the match and cut the lead to one, as he knocked off Cameron, 6-3, 6-1. In No. 4 singles, Westerhof tied the score at two, overpowering Rogers of Furman by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Herrera gave Florida State their first lead of the match, as he defeated Furman's Fillnow by scores of 6-3, 6-2. Jeff Groslimond, playing at the No. 6 position, clinched the victory for the Seminoles, as he defeated Ryan McCarthy in three sets by scores of 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. In No. 5 singles, Laub added to the Seminole margin of victory, as he beat Simmons, 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-2.

The Seminoles will return to action Sunday, March 1st, when they host Georgia State at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
