The Florida State Lady Seminoles defeated the Clemson Tigers tonight 3-1 (30-23, 30-32, 30-26, 30-23) at Jervey Gym. FSU was led by senior Norisha Campbell who had a season high hitting percentage (.515) and junior Alex Sevillano who tallied 18 kills. With the win over the Tigers the Lady Seminoles improve to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in ACC action, while the Clemson Tigers fall to 4-5 on the season and 0-2 in the league.
Florida state would out hit the Tigers .304 to .247 while recording eight service aces to Clemson's one ace. The Lady 'Noles also came out on top when it came to defensive saves with 56 on the evening compared to Clemson's 42.
"We were a totally different team tonight," said head coach Cecile Reynaud. "We came in, fought hard and played well. This team was focused tonight and I am proud of how they performed."
Campbell led all hitters recording 20 kills and seeing a season high hitting percentage of .515. Sevillano added 18 kills with nine digs and two service aces. Kristin Frye contributed to the Lady Seminoles win with a double-double in 14 kills and ten digs with three service aces and Erica Bunch had a match and career-high 17 digs on the night with 12 kills. Senior Elizabeth Pound saw her first start of the 2001 season adding five block assists (tying a career-high) while sophomore standout Jennifer Anderson dished out 65 assists and two service aces.
Following the win the Lady Seminoles will now head to Atlanta, Ga. to face their secon dACC opponent of the season in Georgia Tech (4-3, 0-1) at O'Keefe Gym on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
