Florida State Volleyball Defeats Wake Forest In ACC Action, 3-1

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - Florida State knew that the match with Wake Forest would be a battle. The Seminoles and the Demon Deacons played four close games, but Florida State was triumphant, defeating the Demon Deacons 3-1 (32-34, 30-18, 30-25, 30-26). The victory over Wake Forest gave the Seminoles the season sweep against the Deacons. The Seminoles improve their record to 14-7 overall and 5-3 in the ACC, while Wake Forest falls to 10-12, 4-5 in the conference.
The middle hitters stepped up for the Seminoles on the chilly October afternoon, as Dawn Hough and Aisha Carr contributed a combined 29 kills for Florida State. Hough led the Seminole attack as she tallied 14 kills on 23 attacks with no errors to hit a career-high .609 against Wake Forest. Aisha Carr had 15 kills on 25 attacks with two errors to hit .520. Senior opposite Kristin Frye showed her leadership on the court again, as she recorded 16 kills and 12 digs to earn a double double for Florida State. Outside hitter Erica Bunch also notched 15 kills for the Seminoles with 15, as she hit .367. Junior libero Cerina Pele led the Tribe in digs with 17. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson had 62 assists to lead the team.
Florida State and Wake Forest battled in game one as the score was tied or within one for most of the period. The Seminoles led by as many as three points early in the game and had a 15-12 advantage halfway into the game. The Tribe extended their lead to 22-14, the biggest lead of the game, but could not hold on, as the Demon Deacons were victorious, 34-32.
The Seminoles came out to play in game two as they defeated the Deacons by a score of 30-18. After jumping out to an early five point lead, Florida State refused to lose. The Tribe led Wake Forest by six points at the midway point of the game, 15-9. The Seminoles continued to build on their lead and led by as many as 11 late in the game at 24-13.
Riding momentum after the victory in game two, the Seminoles came out strong in game three. Florida State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and would not look back. Halfway into the game, the Tribe led the Demon Deacons 15-12. Wake Forest would not roll over, as the Demon Deacons fought back to tie the score at 16. Following the tie, Florida State dominated as they led by as many as five late in the game. The Seminoles defeated Wake Forest by a score of 30-25.
Game four was a battle between the Seminoles and Demon Deacons. The score was tight for most of the game, but the Seminoles led 15-11 halfway into the period. Wake Forest cut into the Seminole led many times throughout the match, but could not pull of the win, as Florida State was victorious, 30-26.
The Seminoles will return to action next week, October 25-27, when Florida State will host ACC foes, NC State and #11 North Carolina.
