TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 16-ranked Florida State men's tennis team is back on the road and once again in North Carolina, this time to face No. 28 Wake Forest on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and No. 48 North Carolina State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. FSU enters the weekend riding a six match road winning streak.
"We've done a great job on the road adjusting to the new courts and playing well," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We also have great chemistry which helps out when you are on the road."
The Seminoles (15-6, 5-1) come into the weekend after losing a hard-fought 4-3 match against No. 1 Virginia.
In defeat FSU upset three ranked players in singles including senior Drew Bailey's 6-4, 6-1 win against No. 83 Lee Singer. Sophomore Clint Bowles defeated No. 23 Sanam Singh 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and junior Jean-Yves Aubone dropped No. 15 Dominic Inglot 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-2.
Last season the Garnet and Gold defeated Wake Forest 7-0. Florida State owns a 19-6 record against the Demon Deacons including four straight wins. Wake Forest enters the match with three consecutive victories including a 5-2 win against North Carolina State on Wednesday.
"Wake Forest has a great team this year," Hultquist said. "They have the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the country and they have one of the best singles players in the nation. This may be one of the best teams they've ever had."
FSU has also had great success against the Wolfpack. The Seminoles hold a 19-3 overall record against N.C. State including a 5-2 win last season in Tallahassee.
"We've always had tough matches against North Carolina State," Hultquist said. "They always bring a lot of energy and their No. 1 player is at the top of his game so it will be a tough matchup."
