FSU Volleyball Ranked In Recent NCAA Division I Regional Rankings

In recent polls the Lady Seminole volleyball team is currently standing in 10th place in the NCAA Division I East Region rankings. This marks the first time of the season the squad has been ranked. Included in the East Region are teams from the ACC, Big South, MEAC and Colonial Conferences. Florida State holds a 2001 record of 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the ACC as they enter weekend action against ACC opponents Virginia on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8:00 p.m. in University Hall and Maryland on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5:00 p.m. in Ritchie Coliseum.
Florida State has won five of their last seven matches including a 3-2 ACC mark during the stretch. The squad is led by senior, Norisha Campbell (Universal City, TX) who has tallied team-highs in kills (255), hitting percentage (.349) and total blocks (79). Sophomore setter, Jennifer Anderson (Minier, IL) is having an outstanding season as she has recorded 755 assists. Junior, Alex Sevillano (Clearwater, FL) currently leads the team in digs with 179 and a 2.93 digs per game average. Fellow junior, Kristin Frye (Ft. Wayne, IN) has totaled 30 service aces in 2001, just six shy of her season total in 2000.
This week the ACC begins the second meeting between all schools. The Lady Seminoles will attempt to continue their streak against the Cavaliers as FSU first swept Virginia 3-0 at home, while the Seminoles lead Virginia 16-7 in the all-time series record. The Cavaliers enter action 5-11 overall and 1-8 in ACC play. UVA is led by Shannon Boyle who has tallied 133 kills while contributing a team-high eight block solos. Whitney Ashcraft has a team-high 118 digs this season, while Abby Whittenburg has totaled 291 assists.
As the Seminoles prepare to face Maryland they will attempt a come back from their earlier 3-2 loss to the Terrapins this season. Maryland is led by outside hitter Carey Brennan who, with 206 kills ranks first on the team. She also leads the Terps in attempts (540) and digs (175). Maria DiLivio trails Brennan for the team lead in kills by one with 205. In her first season as a regular, DiLivio has performed extremely well and has developed into one of the team's top players.
The Seminoles continue action on the road following this weekend as they face Jacksonville University on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30.
