Florida State Men's Tennis Falls To 34th-Ranked Rice, 6-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - < The Florida State men's tennis team hosted Rice University Friday, February 14th, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. The Seminoles, ranked 41st nationally, entered the match with a record of 4-1, but fell to the Owls by a score of 6-1.
The Owls jumped out on top early in the match, as Richard and William Barker of Rice defeated Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub in No. 1 doubles, 8-1. At the No. 2 position, Romain Jurd and Alex Herrera tied the doubles score, as they defeated Robert Searle and Vuk Rajevac of Rice by a score of 8-6. Rice then clinched the first point of the day in No. 3 doubles, as Cody Jackson and Tony Haerle beat Chris Westerhoff and Jeff Groslimond of Florida State, 8-5.
Florida State's Laub earned the only Seminole victory in singles action, as he defeated Rajevac of Rice at the No. 6 position by scores of 7-6 (4), 6-2. In No. 1 singles, Cloer took R. Barker to three sets, but fell by scores of 3-6, 7-5, 2-6. Herrera, playing at the No. 3 position, fell in three sets to W. Barker, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.
The Tribe will return to action Sunday, February 16th, when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the University of Alabama. The match is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
