Two Seminoles Named Semi-Finalists For The M.A.C Hermann Trophy
Nov. 14, 2006
Tallahassee, FL - Florida State University has placed a soccer player on the watch list for the prestigious M.A.C. Hermann Trophy for three straight years now but none of those players ever got any closer to the award than the pre-season list. That all changed in a big way Monday when both Selin Kuralay and India Trotter were named the first semi-finalists for the award in program history. FSU was one of four schools to place two players among the 15 semi-finalists.
"We are thrilled to have two of our players make a group that includes the best players in the college game," said FSU Head Coach Mark Krikorian. "India and Sel have been a big part of what this team has accomplished this season and we are proud as a program to have both of them on an elite list for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy."
Kuralay and Trotter are first and second for Florida State in goals, points and game-winning goals. They have combined to score almost half (19) of the Seminoles 40 goals this season and they have eight of the 16 game-winners scored by FSU players in 2006. In the last two seasons Trotter and Kuralay have combined for 48 goals and 120 points in a span of 48 games.
"It is pretty amazing to see my name on a list with a group of players I consider to be the best the NCAA has to offer," said Trotter of her selection. "I am very appreciative to be one of the 15 semi-finalists for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy and am so glad I get to share the honor with Sel. Neither of us would be receiving this recognition though if it wasn't for our teammates who deserve the credit for our team's success."
"Last year I wasn't sure about any of the awards for college soccer coming over from Australia but I am more familiar with them this year and I now know what an honor this is," said Kuralay. "It is great to be recognized especially since India made the list as well but right now we are focused on Illinois this weekend. Individual honors are wonderful but we have even bigger goals as a team."
With the postseason underway, the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy semi-finalists were not the only honors released recently as FSU players continue to pick up awards. Top Drawer Soccer released its postseason awards as well and Florida State players were once again featured prominently. Kuralay and Katrin Schmidt were both named to Top Drawer's Team of The Season. Kelly Rowland picked up second team honors in her first season as a midfielder. Ali Mims, India Trotter and Sarah Wagenfuhr also picked up National Team of the Season honors from the website. Top Drawer also named Becky Edwards to its national All-Freshman first team.
That wasn't the only honor picked up by Mims recently. After her stellar performance in the ACC Tournament, Mims was named to Soccer Buzz's National Team of the Week. It was the first national weekly award of the six-year senior's career.
