Six Seminoles Pick Up Wins At Wildcat Invitational

Lexington, Ky. - The Florida State track and field squad concluded the weekend at the Wildcat Invitational and the 2005 Clemson Pentathlon/Heptathlon Championships on Saturday, January 29, 2005. Six Seminoles won their events at the meet hosted by the University of Kentucky not including the three Tribe members who picked up victories on the first day.
Redshirt sophomore Garrett Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Baptist Academy) picked up his third event win with his second automatic qualifying mark of the 2005 season, throwing 64'9.25" (19.74m). Junior John Fallone (Rochester, N.Y./Virginia Tech) finished in fifth place in the event with a throw of 53'1" (16.18m).
Senior Courtney Wright (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone Community) won the long jump with a mark of 22'9.25" (6.94m) while newcomer Johnta Griffin (Orlando, Fla./Florida A&M) and senior All-American Willie Johnson (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) took fifth and seventh, respectively, with jumps of 21'6" (6.55m) and 21'3.5" (6.49m).
Sophomore Tommy Noyes (Canton, Ohio/Hoover) won his second 800m title of the season, taking the event in a career-best 1:52.23. Junior Robert Cooper (Lake City, Fla./Columbia) finished in fifth place in 1:53.73.
Senior Kimberly Walker (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago/Polytechnic) won the 60m dash in a career-best time of 7.56. Walker also took second in the 200m dash in 24.59.
Junior Barbara Parker (Norfolk, England/Loughborough College) won the one mile run in her first collegiate event for the Seminoles, besting the field in a time of 4:50.67, three second shy of a provisional qualifying mark.
In the long jump, sophomore Charlene Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) and junior LaToya Legree (Lithonia, Ga./Stephenson) took third (18'5.75" - 5.63m) and fourth place (17'9.75" - 5.43m), respectively. In the shot put event, sophomore Lindsey Nelson (Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin) took fifth with a throw of 41'7.75" (12.69m).
Sophomore Chris Nickinson (Pensacola, Fla./Washington) finished third in the mile run in a season-best time of 4:12.87. Senior Joscelyn Worrell (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) took fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.24.
Rookie Leilani Carabello (Miami, Fla./Lourdes Academy) vaulted to a height of 10'6" (3.20m) in the pole vault. Fellow freshmen Kirsten Hagen (Blacksburg, Va./Christiansburg) and Laura Bowerman (Temple Terrace, Fla./King) took fifth and sixth place in the 3000m run in times of 9:58.98 and 10:00.44.
Sophomore Tom Lancashire (Bolton, England/Turton) won the 3000m run in a time of 8:09.83.
Freshman Matt Frith (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) took ninth place in the heptathlon event with 4,604 points. Competing unattached, rookie Javier Garcia-Tunon (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) finished seventh with 4,663 points.
