Maciek Sykut Named ACC Men's Tennis Performer Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Maciek Sykut has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after closing the regular season with a pair of singles and a pair of doubles wins against conference opposition.
Sykut continues to move up the Florida State record books after posting four wins against Maryland and Boston College. His two singles victories – 6-4, 6-2 over Maryland’s Boris Fetbroyt and 6-2, 6-4 over Boston College’s Akash Muppidi – gives Sykut 90 in his career, just two behind all-time FSU leader Jason White.
The senior also teamed with Drew Bailey for an 8-4 win over Maryalnd’s Fetbroyt and Alex Askanov at No. 1 doubles and an 8-2 win over Boston College’s Thomas Nolan and Alex Skinner.
His four overall victories puts the Marathon, Fla., native three behind White for the most combined doubles and singles victories in Florida State history with 168.
Sykut is the third Seminole to earn ACC Performer of the Week honors this season. The Seminoles are the only team in the conference this season to have three different athletes earn the weekly honor.
Florida State continues play with the 2009 ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. The Seminoles have a first round bye and will play the winner of the match between fifth-seeded Duke and No. 12-seed Boston College on Friday at 9:00 a.m.
