Florida State Men's Tennis Falls To Clemson In Heartbreaker, 4-3

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team hosted Clemson University Sunday, March 16th, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. The Seminoles fell in a battle with the Tigers by a score of 4-3. With the loss, the Tribe falls to 8-8 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.

The Seminoles earned the first point in doubles action, but it would not be enough, as the Tigers won two of the three matches and clinched the doubles point. Florida State's Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub, playing at the No. 1 position, defeated Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins, 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, freshmen Chris Westerhof and Jeff Groslimond fell to Clemson's Damiisa Robinson and Ash Misquith by a score of 8-4. Alex Herrera and Chip Webb were defeated by Sander Koning and Brett Twente of Clemson at the No. 3 position, 8-4.

After falling in the doubles portion of the match, junior Herrera got the Seminoles back on track, as he defeated Clemson's Micah Thompson in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. The Tigers quickly regained the lead, as Florida State's Webb was defeated by Koning at the No. 3 position, by scores of 6-1, 6-4. Florida State allowed Clemson to extend its lead to two, as freshman Heiner Tadault, playing in No. 6 singles, fell at the hands of Clemson's John Boetsche, 6-4, 6-4. At the No. 1 position, sophomore sensation Cloer got Florida State back into the match as he defeated N. Thompson, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Senior Laub tied the score at three in No. 5 singles, as he knocked off Robinson by scores of 7-5, 6-3.

The match came down to a battle on court four. Freshman Groslimond had his hands full with Clemson's Jenkins. After allowing Jenkins to take the first set in the match by a score of 6-4, Groslimond fought back to win the second set, 6-2. The match came down to the third set, in which Groslimond was defeated by a score of 6-3.

The Tribe will return to action Friday, March 21st, when Florida State hosts the Bulls of South Florida. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm and will be held at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
