The Florida State Lady Seminoles put up a strong fight but fell to ACC foe Georgia Tech tonight in three straight (30-25, 30-26, 30-24). Seminole junior Erica Bunch again led all teams in digs with 10 for the second consecutive match. With the loss to the Yellow Jacket the Lady Seminoles fell to 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Georgia Tech improved to 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the ACC.
"Georgia Tech played pretty tough tonight," said head coach Cecile Reynaud. "They put on an offensive show that we had a hard time keeping up with."
Three Lady Seminoles finished the night with double-doubles. Kristin Frye, who tallied 12 kills, 20 attacks and recorded a hitting percentage of .450. Bunch put up 10 digs and 23 kills, while senior Norisha Campbell had a team-high 13 kills and 30 attacks. Senior Luana Ruiz Azevedo saw some of her first action of the season as she scored the Seminoles only service ace of the evening. Jennifer Anderson came up one short of a match-high in set assists with 43, while the Yellow Jackets Kele Eveland recorded 44.
The Lady Seminoles return home to face ACC opponents Maryland Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Virginia Sunday, Sept 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Lucy McDaniel Arena at Tully Gym. The match-up between the Seminoles and the Cavaliers will be broadcast regionally on Sunshine Network.
