TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team, currently ranked 41st in the nation, will host Rice University Friday, February 14th. The Owls are ranked 34th in the country and enter the match with the top-ranked doubles team in the country. The match between the Seminoles and the Owls is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm and will be held at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University.
Florida State and Rice have met four times previously. The Owls lead the all-time series with a record of 3-1. The last time the two teams met was in 1988, when Rice edged the Seminoles, 5-4.
The Seminoles enter the match with a record of 4-1 and a ranking of 41st nationally. Junior Alex Herrera is the only Seminole currently ranked. Herrera is ranked 114th in singles. Romain Jurd compliments Herrera in doubles action as they are ranked 38th in the country in doubles play.
The Rice Owls, with a record of 4-0, enter the match ranked 34th in the nation. Rice is led by the Barker duo. William and Richard Barker enter the match as the top-ranked doubles team in the country. The Barker brothers also each rank in the top 50 in singles play. Robert Searle, ranked 16th in the nation, is currently 2-0 in singles action.
The Seminoles will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sunday, February 16th to take on the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
