Seminoles Wrap-Up Day One at Niswonger

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State men's and women's track and field teams completed day one of the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn., on January 21, 2005.

Freshman Walter Dix (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs) bested the indoor Florida State school record in the 200m dash, recording a time of 20.87. The previous mark of 21.08 was set in 2004 by Olympian Brian Dzingai. Dix also finished third in the 60m dash in 6.76, one second and place behind fellow rookie Kenny O'Neal (Oakland, CA/Skyline).

Sophomore Dana Massiah (Trinidad/Bishop Anstey) and junior Kim Adams (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stone Mountain) moved on to the 400m finals after running a 57.12 and 57.28, respectively. Fellow 400m runner Ricardo Chambers (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) finished first in the preliminaries in a season-best time 47.67 to secure a spot in the finals.

Junior thrower Andrew Diakos (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) took fifth in the weight throw, posting a mark of 57' (17.37m). Sophomore India Pettus (Cleveland, Ohio/Trinity) ran a 2:19.93 in the 800m run.

The women's 4x400m relay won the preliminary race, in 3:46.28, moving on to the finals taking place tomorrow at 6:20 p.m. The men finished in fifth to qualify for finals behind a time of 3:15.83.

The Seminoles continue the two-day meet with competition tomorrow. The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with the women's 5000m run. www.seminoles.com
