Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State track and field team completed day two of the Florida Relays on Thursday, March 24, 2005 in Gainesville, Fla. Junior Deanna Lane (Marietta, Ga./Pope) won the women's heptathlon event and provisionally qualified with an event-winning, career-best score of 5231 points. Freshman Matt Frith (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) won the men's decathlon with 6353 points, after finishing in second place after day one.

Lane took third in the 800m run in 2:26.76 and the javelin (103'2" - 31.46m). Lane was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 17'0.5" (5.19m) en route to winning the heptathlon. Freshman Heather Leblanc (Live Oak, Fla./Suwannee) finished in fourth place with 4775 points. In the long jump event, she took second place in 17'4.75" (5.30m). LeBlanc finished in sixth place in the 800m run with a time of 2:33.51.

Frith finished in second place in the 110m hurdles in a time of 15.65 and the pole vault with a height of 13'11.75" (4.26m). In the javelin, he placed third with a throw of 150'7" (45.90m) and the 1500m run with a time of 5:12.19. He took fourth in the men's discus throw, with a mark of 103'8" (31.59m).

Sophomore Chris Nickinson (Pensacola, Fla./Washington) finished in third place in the 1500m run with a season-best time of 3:50.40.

Junior Andrew Diakos (Naples, Fla./Barron-Collier) was second in the hammer throw with his fourth provisional qualifying mark of the season, throwing 191'10" (58.48m).

Competition continues tomorrow in Gainesville, Fla., beginning with the discus at 9:00 a.m. and the 400m at 11:00 a.m.
