No 3 Seminoles In Third Place at Clover Cup

MESA, Arizona (seminoles.com) – The Florida State women’s golf team is in third place in the team standings, and senior All-America Matilda Castren is tied for third in the individual standings after two rounds of the Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club.  The Seminoles enter the third and final round of the event only seven strokes behind Arizona State who surged to the top of the team leaderboard during the second round.  The No. 3 ranked Seminoles are playing for their school record sixth tournament win of the season and their third consecutive win which would also rank as a school record when play begins on Sunday morning.

The No. 5 ranked Sun Devils carded a 275 team score to move from second place after the first round into the team lead after 36 holes.  Arizona State shot its lowest round of the season as a team (275) and is 20 strokes under par for the tournament. Houston moved into second (-14) while No. 2 Florida State (-13) is in third. Julienne Soo of Oklahoma has shot back-to-back scores of 66 and leads the individual standings with a 12-under par score of 132.  Florida State’s Castren is seven strokes off of the lead of Oklahoma’s Soo.

Castren (Espoo, Finland) carded a 69 in Saturday’s second round – a score that included the second eagle of her Florida State career.  She eagled the par five hole No. 9 to close out her front nine at 3-under par.  Castren then carded two birdies on her back nine to finish with her third score in the 60’s this spring.  She has a two-round total of 3-under par 139 – a total that puts her cumulative spring score at 11 under par.  She has completed two of her first three events of the spring under par.

Juniors Kim and Morgane Metraux are tied for seventh in in the individual standings with identical scores of 140.  Kim carded an even par 72 in the second round while Morgane carded a 1-under par score of 71.  Morgane is playing for her third consecutive individual championship after earning medalist honors at the Florida State Match-Up and The Dickson Invitational during the month of February.

Morgane Metraux was named the ACC Golfer of the Month for February with two individual wins in two events.

Senior Lydia Gumm is in a tie for 19th place with two even par scores of 72 and a two-round total of 140.  She has carded six of her last eight scores at par or better including a near-career-low 68 in the second round of the Dickson Invitational.  Gumm is a total of three strokes under par in her first four events of the spring season.

All five Seminoles will tee off on Sunday in a shot-gun start at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT.\
