GREENSBORO, N.C. – The defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion Florida State women and Syracuse men’s cross country teams were selected to repeat in 2014 in a vote by the league's head coaches.

Florida State, which has collected seven consecutive ACC titles, received all but two first-place votes on the women’s side. Virginia, which received the other two first-place votes, placed second, followed by Syracuse, Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

NC State was seventh in the women’s voting, followed by Virginia Tech, Boston College, Wake Forest, Louisville, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Pitt and Miami.

Colleen Quigley, the 2013 ACC Performer of the Year, leads a group which includes three additional All-ACC Performers in Linden Hall, Pippa Woolven and Carly Thomas.

On the men’s side, Florida State was tabbed to finish fourth, behind defending champion and unanimous No. 1 choice, Syracuse. Virginia placed second on the preseason ballot, followed by North Carolina. NC State and Virginia Tech rounded out the top six.

Notre Dame held seventh place in the men’s poll, followed by Duke and ACC newcomer Louisville in an eighth-place tie. Wake Forest placed 10th in the voting, followed by Georgia Tech, Clemson, Pitt, Boston College and Miami.

The ACC is well-represented in the USTFCCCA coaches’ preseason polls released Tuesday, with five men’s teams ranked among the top 30 and six women’s teams represented.

Florida State’s women earned a No. 3 preseason ranking, while Virginia is 10th. Syracuse is ranked 13th, followed by Boston College at No. 17, Virginia Tech at No. 21 and NC State at No. 27.

Syracuse leads conference teams in the men’s poll with a No. 8 national ranking. Virginia is ranked 14th, followed by NC State at No. 15, North Carolina at No. 20 and Florida State at No. 24.

The Seminoles open the 2014 season Friday afternoon at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va., site of this year’s ACC Championship, when they compete at the UVa Duals.
