TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  (Seminoles.com) – For the third consecutive season and fourth time in five years, the 13th-ranked Florida State indoor volleyball team has been selected to win the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014.

The Seminoles accumulated the highest point total at 187 out of a possible 196, including seven first-place votes from the league’s 15 head coaches. First-place votes were awarded 14 points, second place received 13 points, etc. Coaches were not allowed to include their own team in their predicted order of finish.

“I believe the voting was more of a respect for the program,” head coach Chris Poole said. “We lost two All-Americans and our best rotation player from last year, but we do believe that we were able to bring in some great talent and we are excited to start the season to see how all the new players respond to a live match.”

Duke (No. 21) picked up 181 points, while (No. 20) North Carolina came in third with 181 and both received four first place votes.  Miami (151), Louisville (123), Virginia (113), NC State (106), Syracuse (105), Pittsburgh (103), Virginia Tech (93), Notre Dame (85), Clemson (53), Georgia Tech (40), Wake Forest (39) and Boston College (16) rounded out the poll.

In addition to the first-place prediction, redshirt senior libero Katie Mosher, junior outside hitter Nicole Walch and redshirt sophomore middle blocker Sarah Burrington were named to the 19-player Preseason All-ACC Team. It was the second nod for Mosher, while Walch and Burrington captured their first.

The Seminoles and Blue Devils tabbed three players each, while nine other schools were represented on the list.

In addition to Mosher, Burrington and Walch, Florida State returns five other letter winners including starting senior setter Sarah Wickstrom.

“I am very proud of Sarah, Katie and Nicole,” Poole said. “Along with Sarah Wickstrom we are going to rely on these ladies to be the backbone of our team and lead us throughout this season, especially with nine new players.”

The 13th-ranked Seminoles will head to Lincoln, Neb. for the first leg of the AVCA Showcase to face No. 7 Nebraska on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. (CT). FSU is the first ACC team to earn an invitation to the highly-touted tournament.
