ON COFER: A rising star on the national scene who became a fixture in the Seminoles’ starting line-up as a freshman…a virtual highlight reel during his freshman season who exhibited an incredible array of high-flying dunks, blocked shots and rebounds as a freshman that made the nation stand up and take notice of the ultra-talented player in his first season as a Seminole…if his play during his first season in Tallahassee is an indicator of future stardom, he will shine as brightly as any other player in the ACC and nationally during the remainder of his career as a Seminole…has an incredible blend of size and athleticism that allows him to succeed in the exceedingly deep pool of post players in the ACC…one of Florida State’s hardest working players who is a very high character person in addition to being a talented basketball player… an athletic power forward who displayed the  ability to attack the glass on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court during his entire freshman season…ranked second on the team in rebounding with a 4.5 rebounds per game average as a freshman…and has the ability to play above the rim on both ends of the court…his quickness allows him to out-maneuver players who might be taller than he is…runs the floor well and finishes around defenders…can score with his extremely quick first step and has the ability to start a primary break after working hard to earn a defensive rebound…earned the No. 1 Play of the Day on ESPN with his monstrous, seen and heard around the college basketball world dunk over ACC Player of the Year and No. 1 overall NBA Draft Choice Jahlil Okafor of Duke on February 9, 2015 as the Seminoles played host the No. 5 ranked Blue Devils in Tallahassee… Said ESPN’s Shane Battier: “This might be a SportsCenter Top 10 – Phil Cofer sending it in with authority over the big fella.  This was a fantastic baseline attack by Cofer.  One way to attack a shot blocker is to go right through his chest and that’s what he (Cofer) did right there.  Very impressive, athletic play by Phil Cofer.”…a four-star recruit and the No. 56 overall high school basketball prospect in the nation in 2014 according to ESPN…the No. 8 overall ranked prospect in the talent-laden state of Georgia by the Phenom Hoop Report as a high school senior…the No. 6 ranked prospect in the class of 2014 by Georgia Hoops…one of five players from the state of Georgia who was nominated to play in the McDonald’s High School All-American game in 2014…a talented member of the Atlanta-based Team Georgia Elite coached by Al Outlaw…presented with the Mr. Hustle Award by the Florida State coaching staff at the Seminoles’ 2015 season-ending honors banquet…

AS A FRESHMAN (2015): Averaged 6.9 points (fourth on the team), 4.5 rebounds (second) and 0.6 blocked shots (fourth) while starting 24 of 33 games – the final 24 games of his first season as a Seminole…ranked sixth on the team with a .456 shooting percentage and sixth on the team with a .632 free throw shooting percentage…among the ACC freshmen leaders in scoring (14th) and rebounding (eighth) and was one of only 12 freshmen in the ACC to rank in the top 15 in both scoring and rebounding…also finished 11th in the ACC among freshman in blocked shots and 15th in field goal shooting percentage…inserted into the Seminoles’ starting line-up on December 17 against North Florida and played exceeding well enough to win the starting job at the power forward sport and hold onto the starting job for the remainder of the season…started the Seminoles’ final 17 ACC games of the season…the only ACC game he did not start was in December at Notre Dame…started each of the Seminoles’ ACC games during the months of January, February  and March…his 149 rebounds ranks as the fifth highest total by a Seminole freshman…his 67 free throws and 106 free throw attempts during the 2014-15 season ranks as the sixth highest totals by a Florida State freshman…first career double-double came on the road at Pittsburgh (21 points and 11 rebounds) in his third career ACC road game…the 21 points ranks as his overall career and ACC-high while his 11 rebounds against the Panthers (Jan. 14) ranks as his ACC career high and his second highest single game rebounding total…pulled down his career high of 12 rebounds in his fourth career game against UMass in the final round of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic (Nov. 23)…his career-high 21-point scoring game was the first time in his career that he has led the Seminoles in scoring…also led the Seminoles in rebounding with his career-high of 12 rebounds against UMass…was one of five Seminoles who scored at least 20 points in a game during the 2014-15 season…scored in double figures six times as a freshman including victories over Wake Forest (Jan. 28, 19 points), Boston College (Feb. 18, 13 points) and against Clemson in his first career ACC Tournament game (March 11, 10 points)… a very consistent scorer who finished fourth on the team in scoring with a 6.9 points per game scoring average despite scoring in double figures only six times…double figures came against ACC opponents four times including three during the regular season and once in the ACC Tournament (10 points against Clemson)…ranked second on the team as he led the team in rebounding eight times including in his first career game against Manhattan (six rebounds on Nov. 15)…also led the Seminoles in rebounding against UMass, North Florida (Dec. 17, eight), Stetson (Dec. 22, eight), at Pittsburgh, against Wake Forest (eight), against Boston College (nine) and against Clemson in the ACC Tournament (March 11, seven)…Florida State was 6-2 during his freshman season when he led the team in rebounding…his 12 rebounds against UMass in the final round of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic were the most by any Seminole in a single game during the 2014-15 season…finished fourth among his Seminole teammates in blocked shots with 20…one of only 10 freshmen in the ACC during the 2014-15 season with 20 or more blocked shots…multiple blocked shots in four different games with two each against Northeastern (Nov. 18), UCF (Dec. 6), Wake Forest and at Virginia Tech (Feb. 7)…career-high three steals against NC State (Jan. 17) rank as his career and ACC high…

AT WHITEWATER: Graduated from Whitewater High School in 2013…averaged a double double of 18.0 points and 10.9 rebounds in two seasons as a member of the Whitewater varsity…shot .580 from the field during his two varsity seasons…totaled 116 career blocked shots including 73 as a senior (3.0 bpg)…averaged a double double of 19.3 points and 12.8 rebounds to go along with 3.0 blocked shots in 24 games as a senior…led Whitewater to an 18-10 record and a berth in the Georgia High School Scholastic Association Class 5A state tournament as a senior…earned All-State First Team honors in 2014 as he was named to the 5A All-State team by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution…led Whitewater to the state championship playoffs and to the best record in Atlanta’s Region Class 5A classification…Whitewater won two games in the state playoffs in only the second appearance in the state championship tournament since the school opened in 2005…named the Fayette County Player of the Year and to the All-County First Team by the Fayette County News…an All-State Second Team selection to the American Family Insurance All-Georgia team in 2014…scored his senior season high of 35 points in a win over South Cobb and scored at least 20 points  nine times and scored in double figures in 23 of 24 games… totaled his season high of 19 rebounds in a win over Landmark Christian and pulled down at least 15 rebounds in six different games…recorded double figures rebounds in 21 of 24 games…totaled 10 double-doubles in points and rebounds in his 24 games as a senior…played in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s North-South All-Star game following his senior season…averaged a near double-double of 16.7 points and 8.9 rebounds as a junior and scored his season high of 42 points in a win over Landmark Christian…scored 20 points or more seven times as a junior including his 42-point outing and a 30-point scoring game in a victory over Northgate High School…earned All-State Second Team honors in Class 5A from the Georgia Sportswriters Association as a junior…

PERSONAL: Born June 19, 1996…Philip is the son of Michael and Reba Cofer…Michael played football at the University of Tennessee and then in the NFL after being drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1983…played 10 seasons in the NFL, all with the Lions and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1988 after earning 12 sacks…led the Lions in sacks each season from 1987 through 1990…his father played at Tennessee under the legendry Johnny Majors…Reba played women’s basketball at Tennessee…originally signed with Tennessee but was released from his National Letter of Intent after a coaching change in Knoxville…narrowed his choices to Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech in May of 2014 before deciding to become a Seminole…
