TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Three Seminoles competed in the U.S. Open National Playoffs Florida Sectional Qualifying Tournament on Friday at the Indoor Tennis Facility. Florida State is hosting the event which runs through Sunday.
The winner of each Sectional Qualifying Tournament in each division will advance to the U.S. Open National Playoffs Championship. Winners of those Championships will receive a wild card entry in the 2014 U.S. Open in August.
In the mixed doubles draw, redshirt freshman Parker Evertsen and women's tennis freshman Emily Fanning teamed up together and won 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Their opponent in the quarterfinals pulled out due to injury and will now play in the semifinals.
In singles play, Evertsen was the first Seminole to take the courts as he dropped 6-0, 6-0. Sophomores Grayson Goldin and Jake Albo also had tough losses dropping 6-0, 6-4 and 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, respectively.
