TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Seminoles, both current and former players, are competing hard this summer. Current student-athletes Jack Maguire and Josh Lee are playing here in the United States while former All-Americans Jonas Blixt, Brooks Koepka and George McNeill are gearing up for the Open Championship in England.
This week, rising sophomores Lee and Maguire are competing in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Netwon, Kansas. The Seminoles started the tournament on Monday with Maguire posting a 2-over 73 and Lee turning in a 4-over 75.
This past weekend, Maguire finished fifth at The Players Amateur at the Berkeley Hall Club in Bluffton, S.C., with an 8-under 280 through the four rounds. He shot the second-lowest score of the event with a 64 in the third round.
Blixt, Koepka and McNeill tee off on Thursday at the Royal Liverpool. After a career day, which included a career-low 64 and a hole-in-one, at the Greenbrier Classic, McNeill qualified for The Open Championship with a second place finish. This marks his second appearance with his first coming in 2010.
This also marks the second appearance for Blixt and Koepka who played last year at Muirfield. Blixt finished in a tie for 26th while Koepka missed the cut
