Milan And Gumm Advance At WAPL

DUPONT, Wash. - Florida State's Alex Milan and Lydia Gumm have advanced to the match play portion of the 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship and will continue play in the event on Wednesday on the Home Course. Milan carded scores of 74 and 72 and finished in a tied for 41st place while Gumm finished with scores of 77 and 70 and finished in a tie for 50th place during two rounds of stroke play with both making the cut to advance to match play.

With scores of 74 and 72, Milan (Lutz, Fla.) finished the two rounds of stroke play with a 2 over par scores of 146. She carded her even par score in the second round with two birdies and 16 holes played at par or better. Milan carded only two bogies during her very consistent play in the second round. She finished her front nine at 2 under par with two birdies and finished her round with five consecutive holes played at par.

Gumm (Radcliff, Ky.) played outstanding golf in the second round as she carded a 2 under par score of 70. She carded six birdies including three on her back nine. Gumm finished her round well as she played her final 11 holes at 2 under par. She totaled nine birdies during the two rounds of stroke play.

Milan will face Eimi Koga in the first round of match play beginning at 8:48 (PT) on Wednesday while Gumm will face Cindy Ha in the first round of match play beginning at 11:30 (PT). The winners on Wednesday will advance to the second round of match play on Thursday. Koga is a rising sophomore at Washington and Ha will be a freshman at Vanderbilt during the fall of 2014.

The advancing players will play one match on Wednesday, with the subsequent winners playing two rounds Thursday, two rounds Friday and the championship on Saturday.
