Position: Senior Academic Advisor
Merce Poindexter joined the Seminole team in June 2013.  In October 2015 he was promoted to the senior Academic Advisor role.  He serves as an Academic Advisor for football.  
Poindexter previously worked as an Academic Coordinator for football at Georgia Tech. Poindexter joined the Georgia Tech Academic staff in June 2011. Prior to arriving in Atlanta, Poindexter was an Assistant Academic Coordinator for football at the University of Akron from 2009 to 2011. Poindexter is also an active member of the National Association for Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A). He was elected to the position of Regional Outreach Sub-committee leader for N4A’s Ethnic Concerns Committee for the 2015-2016 calendar year.  

Poindexter attended the University of Akron as a football student-athlete, and was the offensive captain of his team in 2008. The former football standout earned his Bachelor's degree in Business and Organizational Communication in 2009, and his Master's degree in Sport Administration in 2011. Poindexter was born in Los Angeles, but moved to his hometown of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania at the age of three.

When not working with students, Poindexter enjoys working out, playing basketball and all other outdoor sports. Poindexter is always trying to challenge himself to accomplish new things, and it is his belief that constantly trying to improve is the only way to achieve and maintain success.
