Men's Golf Improves in Second Round

PALM CITY, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – An improvement was made in the second round of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational for Florida State Men’s Golf, shooting a 3-over 287 on Monday as it sits in 10th place at one of the nation’s toughest tournaments.

FSU is currently at 22-over through two rounds, but shaved 16 strokes off its aggregate score from Sunday. Senior Josh Lee was one of just 13 golfers who shot under par in the second round, carding a 1-under 70. Lee is tied for 18th overall at 3-over.

Lee recorded just two holes above par on Monday and drained four birdies. Two came on par 4 holes while the other two came in par 5 situations.

Redshirt freshman Jonathan Keppler had another solid round, shooting an even par 71 which included four birdies on the back nine. Keppler shot 33 on the back nine at Floridian Golf Club.

Redshirt junior Cristobal Del Solar had a 3-over 74 and is tied for 33rd at six-over through two rounds. Redshirt junior Harry Ellis swung it well with a closing 1-over 72 in the second round, and is tied for 49th at 9-over. Ellis tied with Keppler for the most birdies on the day with four.

Sophomore Corey Carlson is tied for 71st at 16-over.

Florida State leads the field in par 5 scoring at 8-under while sitting second with 110 pars made in the first two rounds.

FSU begins its final round on Tuesday at 8:36 a.m.
